The European Commission is launching a call for ideas to gather recommendations and suggestions for priorities and research and innovation (R&I) activities for the quantum communication infrastructure (QCI) initiative. The objective of this call is to identify critical areas for which an EU Investment is needed to allow the European Union to ensure a robust, non-dependent and sustainable supply chain of quantum communication technologies to build the EuroQCI.

The 7th Human Brain Project (HBP) Summit & Open Day was held in Athens, Greece in February 2020 with the participation of more than 500 HBP scientists and more than 750 external participants for the Open Day. This year, the focus was on the key steps taken to establish EBRAINS, the new European Research Infrastructure for Neuroscience.

A multidisciplinary team of Graphene Flagship researchers is developing high-performance graphene enabled silicon-based lithium-ion batteries for hearing aids, wearables and small electronic devices. In doing so, they identified how to use a pinch of graphene to increase the lifetime and the capacity of these batteries by 30%.

On 3 March, the chair of the Flagship’s Strategic Advisory Board, Prof. J.Mlynek, presented the new Strategic Research Agenda for the Quantum Flagship to Roberto Viola, the Director General of the Communications Networks, Content and Technology (Connect) at the European Commission. The document aims at setting a clear direction for the future development of quantum research and innovation in Europe.
