Japan, 18 December 2025 – SoftBank Corporation has begun providing limited commercial services using SRv6 MUP on its live 5G network, marking what it describes as the world’s first deployment of this technology in a commercial 5G environment.
According to the operator, the use of SRv6 MUP enables more cost-effective implementation of multi-access edge computing and network slicing, supporting low-latency services such as fixed wireless access. The solution has been deployed using Broadcom Jericho2 chips alongside Arrcus ArcOS software and VMware Telco Cloud infrastructure.
SoftBank said the initial deployment demonstrates the potential of SRv6 MUP to simplify network architecture while improving performance and flexibility. The company plans to expand coverage and continue working with technology partners to support wider adoption of the solution for low-latency 5G applications in Japan and internationally.
