European Digital Skills Awards
The European Digital Skills Awards 2018 which are organised with the support of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, will recognise initiatives that have improved the digital skills of Europeans at school, at work, for ICT specialists, for girls and women and in society in general. We are particularly looking for success stories which could be scaled-up and replicated in other cities, regions, countries and sectors.
Having a digitally skilled population and labour force is crucial to drive European competitiveness and to foster an inclusive digital society. Today 43% of Europeans do not have basic digital skills. This is why improving the ability of Europeans to use digital technology is one of the priorities of the Digital Single Market and the New Skills Agenda for Europe, of which the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition is a prominent initiative.
Winning projects will be selected in the following five categories:
- Digital skills for all – developing digital skills to enable all citizens to be active in our digital society
- Digital skills for the labour force – developing digital skills for the digital economy, e.g. upskilling and reskilling workers, jobseekers; career advice and guidance
- Digital skills for ICT professionals – developing high-level digital skills for ICT professionals in all industry sectors
- Digital skills in education – transforming the teaching and learning of digital skills in a lifelong learning perspective, including the training of teachers
- Digital skills for girls and women – taking actions to develop digital skills for women and girls
How do I submit a project?
You can submit a project for the European Digital Skills Awards 2018 by filling in the online application form by 24 October 2018.
By submitting the application form you agree to the project being listed in the European Commission's Digital Skills and Jobs initiatives repository openly available through the European Commission website.
The winners will be chosen by an independent jury of digital skills experts from different stakeholder groups and different Member States, appointed by the European Commission.
The jury will assess the impact of the project, the synergies between different stakeholders involved, the scalability and replicability of the initiative and the originality and clarity of presentation of the project.
Who can apply?
The Awards are open to any organisation or company (e.g. national or local public authorities, businesses, education, non-governmental organisations, associations or a mix thereof) undertaking digital skills projects in Europe. The initiative must cover one or multiple EU Members States or EFTA countries, and have started and shown results between the 1 January 2016 and 30 October 2018.
Submissions made for the 2016 and/or 2017 awards may be re-submitted, excluding the winners. Winning organisations are nevertheless welcome to submit a different initiative.

The awards offer successful digital skills initiatives a unique opportunity to showcase their work at European level. As digital tools are already transforming the European economy and society, digital competences are vital for anyone to play an active part. The awards shine a light on good examples of how to tackle the digital skills gap and help people to follow training in different stages of life. Organisations, initiatives and projects now have until 24 October to apply.
