vCare started developing a smart virtual coach for rehabilitation

One out of six people in the European Union has a disability, usually caused by an acute episode or a chronic disease. A suitable rehabilitation is key as it helps people to live independently and enhance their quality of life as they age. However, as the rehabilitation period usually lasts some months, the continuity of care often is interrupted in the transition from the hospital to the home.

Virtual Coaches can help these patients to proceed with a personalised rehabilitation that complies to age-related conditions, empower them and enhance the adherence to the care plan, and prevent risks.

Overall, vCare - 'Virtual Coaching Activities for Rehabilitation in Elderly' - will tackle the current lack of a participatory design driven by users’ needs, and the personalisation of care pathways enabled by technology. vCare will contribute to the EU goal of increasing healthy life years of Europeans by two until 2020.

This project has been awarded a budget of € 4,044,217.50 under the framework program for research and innovation Horizon 2020. It integrates researchers, healthcare providers and industry experts from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Romania and Spain.
