European Film Forum

MEDIA continues its stakeholder dialogue as part of the European Film Forum started in 2015. This time, the focus was on the importance of the audience in the digital era, a topic discussed during the second edition of "Audiences in motion: listening to the User".

This event was organised by the San Sebastian Festival and Creative Europe MEDIA, with the collaboration of Donostia/ San Sebastian European Capital of Culture 2016.  In the digital era, the audience plays a crucial role in the production, distribution and exhibition of audiovisual content. Listening to them and connecting to new generations of users, the so-called millennials and digital natives, represents an enormous opportunity for the industry.

These issues were addressed through two panels (Audience Participation and Distribution- Understanding European Audiences), where practical cases of audience participation were presented, looking at data analysis and social media monitoring as essential tools in digital conversation.

Background

This year the MEDIA Programme is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Since its creation in 1991, the EU's support programme for the European audiovisual industry has helped train more than 20,000 producers, directors and screenwriters, and enabled them to adapt to new technologies. Each year, around 2.000 European films, television series and other projects receive MEDIA funding that supports their development and distribution.
