The event in the context of the upcoming German federal elections highlighted the responsibility of very large online platforms and search engines and their obligations under the Digital Services Act (DSA).
Representatives from Google (YouTube), LinkedIn, Microsoft, Meta (Facebook, Instagram), Snapchat, TikTok and X, as well as from national authorities and civil society organisations, took part in the roundtable. The exchange focused on current election-related trends, as well as risk-minimising measures by the major online platforms and search engines.
Read further information about the roundtable on the German DSC official webpage.
Election roundtables in the context of the DSA are a standard tool to ensure the implementation readiness ahead of elections in the EU. Similar roundtables in the run-up to national elections have already been held in other EU Member States. Notably, in November 2024, online platforms, relevant state authorities and CSOs, together with the Romanian DSC and the Commission, met to discuss and share information with regards to the Romanian Presidential and Parliamentary election. Such exchanges were also held in the context of the European elections in June 2024.
