Second Meeting of the Task Force on Age Verification

On 18 March 2024, DG Connect hosted the second meeting of the Task Force On Age Verification under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

The meeting was opened by Deputy Director General Renate Nikolay. During the meeting,  eGovernment and Trust colleagues presented the EU digital Identity Wallet (EUDI).

Member States had the opportunity to take the floor emphasising the need for a harmonised EU approach to age verification and the important role of EUDI in this regard. They also presented their latest developments in national approaches to age verification. DG CNECT called for volunteers to take part in a proof of concept project using EUDI for +18 age verification.  

Next Steps

The taskforce will meet again before the summer. In the meantime, a pilot on a proof of concept on the use of the EUDI for age verification should start.

Background

The Commission has set up a task force on age verification with Member States to support the implementation of the DSA. The objective is to foster cooperation with national authorities of Member States with expertise in the field to identify best practices and standards in age verification and to develop an EU approach to age verification.
