  • Publication 10 novembre 2016

The EGI Federation brings together over 300 data and computing sites spread across Europe and worldwide to deliver advanced computing services to support scientists, multinational projects and research infrastructures. The EGI services can be requested by everyone involved in research and innovation from both the public and private sector.

Over the last decade, the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) has built a distributed computing and data infrastructure to support over 21,000 researchers from many disciplines with unprecedented data analysis capabilities.

EGI’s mission is to create and deliver open solutions for science and research infrastructures by federating digital capabilities, resources and expertise between communities and across national boundaries.

By providing easy, integrated and open access to the advanced computing capabilities, researchers from all disciplines have the resources and expertise they need to collaborate in data/compute-intensive challenges.

To this end, EGI has developed a Services Catalogue divided into three main categories:

  1. Compute
    1. Cloud Compute - Run virtual machines on demand with complete control over computing resources
    2. Cloud Container Compute - Run Docker containers in a lightweight virtualised environment
    3. High-Throughput Compute - Execute thousands of computational tasks to analyse large datasets
  2. Online Storage and Data
    1. Online Storage - Store, share and access your files and their metadata on a global scale
    2. Archive Storage - Back-up your data for the long term and future use in a secure environment
    3. Data Transfer - Transfer large sets of data from one place to another
  3. Training
    1. FitSM training - Learn how to manage IT services with a pragmatic and lightweight standard
    2. Training infrastructure - Dedicated computing and storage for training and education
