Visit the new and improved Europeana Collections website, launched on 23 March. It is easier to use, faster and has new artwork to enjoy. Also, thanks to this platform, parents and teachers have access to a plethora of resources to teach children about European heritage in a fun and interactive way, while self-isolating at home.

So what is Europeana?

Europeana is an online portal for cultural heritage from over 3500 cultural institutions, such as galleries, museums and other collections. The idea stems from an EU plan to make cultural heritage more accessible to all European citizens, with the aim of it functioning much like a digital library.

Many iconic institutions in Europe are contributing to Europeana, including world-renowned museums like the Louvre in Paris or the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The platform features millions of cultural works and is accessible on your computer or mobile device.

Who should use it?

Europeana is free and open to the public and, with the huge variety of scientific and artistic pieces on display, there really is something for everyone.

However, some of the features below make it particularly suitable for teachers and young people:

  • Europeana Colouring Books: Europeana invites you to #ColorOurCollections, releasing a variety of art that is just waiting to be completed. There are many to choose from, but take a look at the most recent one that gives you a glimpse of working during the Industrial Revolution.
  • Europeana Classroom for Teachers: Made for teachers, it offers multiple learning scenarios, featured topics, training tools, apps and games, and videos. This portal is not only for art teachers, as it includes resources for other subjects, e.g. history, music, science and many more.

Do you know someone who could benefit from Europeana? Spread the word and let teachers, students and European culture-lovers know how they could be benefitting from this great platform.
