North region and São Paulo, Brazil, 3 June 2025 – Consorcio Amazonia 5G, a consortium of regional internet service providers in Brazil, has announced plans to deploy a high-capacity fixed wireless access (FWA) network across Brazil’s northern states, leveraging recently acquired 3.5 GHz spectrum. The initiative was confirmed by Chief Executive Officer Luiz Claudio Soares Pereira during the Teletime Tec 5G & Wireless event in São Paulo.

The group acquired an unused 1×80 MHz 3.5 GHz licence from Sercomtel for BRL 81 million (USD 14.3 million), a deal that also transfers the obligation to launch commercial 5G services by July 2026. The licence covers Brazil’s North region and the state of São Paulo.

According to Pereira, initial deployments will begin this year in at least 50 to 100 cities, with broader coverage planned to meet regulatory commitments by 2026. The FWA network will prioritise high-capacity, high-traffic environments, with infrastructure support provided by Huawei, which will supply the required base stations.

The announcement underlines the growing momentum behind 5G FWA as a solution to bridge digital connectivity gaps in underserved regions.
