Key stakeholders, including energy operators, producers, system providers, integrators, device manufacturers, and research institutions, gathered in Brussels on 11 March 2024 to review the progress and outline the future steps for CEEDS's implementation.

A preliminary blueprint of the CEEDS was discussed, highlighting the collaboration and interoperability frameworks essential for its success. The blueprint marks a significant step towards the realization of a digital twin of the European energy system, emphasizing the crucial role of digital technologies in achieving the EU's decarbonization and competitiveness goals.

The next phase involves the actual deployment of the CEEDS, supported by the Digital Europe Programme (DEP). A call for projects has been announced, inviting proposals that align with the EU's sustainability objectives and facilitate sector integration. This call encourages participation from a broad range of Member States and stakeholders, with the aim of establishing a secure and innovative European energy data space.

Expected outcomes of the CEEDS include technical infrastructures that cover all essential components, such as data models, exchange APIs, and governance systems. These infrastructures will address various use cases, from managing distributed energy resources to optimizing electric vehicle charging, enhancing the efficiency of electricity grids, and supporting the integration of renewable energy sources.

Furthermore, the initiative seeks to establish suitable business models and a governance system to ensure the data space's sustainability and accessibility beyond the project's lifetime. Biannual reports will track the integration with local and national data ecosystems, while regular updates on usage and maintenance will ensure continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement.

The CEEDS is a cornerstone of the EU's strategy to digitalize the energy system, aligned with the 'Fit for 55' package and the RePowerEU plan. By fostering cross-sectoral collaboration and leveraging existing digital frameworks, the CEEDS will drive the transition to a more sustainable, efficient, and integrated energy market in Europe.
