The Digital Cultural Heritage and Europeana Expert Group (DCHE) is a forum for cooperation in digitisation, and online cultural material and preservation.
The Digital Cultural Heritage and Europeana (DCHE) Expert Group reviews and discusses policies for digital cultural heritage. In particular, assists the European Commission in monitoring progress and assessing the impact of the implementation of the European Commission Recommendation on digitising and digital preservation and related Council Conclusions (.pdf).
Moreover, the Group provides high quality advice on specific policy issues where such advice is important for the development of EU policies and legislation.
A sub-group on Europeana of the DCHE Expert Group has been established to provide the DCHE with advice on certain aspects of the Europeana Digital Service Infrastructure. This includes Europeana’s general objectives, governance, strategic plan for 2020-2025, evolution and sustainability. The sub-group on Europeana has 12 members: 8 members appointed following an open call for applications, and 4 members appointed by nominations of Member States.

The mandate came to an end 30 June 2021. In order to reflect new tasks the Commission Expert Group on the common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage succeeded this group.

The European Commission published the fourth State of the Digital Decade report, showing that Europe has made progress on its 2030 digital transformation targets, such as secure and sustainable digital infrastructures and the digitalisation of public services – but the challenge now is delivering results at scale, speed and consistency.
The Executive Vice-President for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, alongside Cyprus' Deputy Minister of culture, Vasiliki Kassiandou, on behalf of the Council of the EU, will host Twin It! II event to close the two-part campaign and showcase the achievements in digitisation to preserve cultural heritage across the EU.
The European Commission's State of the Digital Decade 2025 report assessed the EU's progress along the four target areas for the EU's digital transformation by 2030, highlighting achievements and gaps in the areas of digital infrastructure, digitalisation of businesses, digital skills, and digitalisation of public service.
The Commission has released a collection of 3D-digitised cultural heritage assets on Europeana, the common European data space for cultural heritage.
