It was awarded with three top prizes in the main competition, i.e. the Jury Prize for Best Cinematography, Silver Shell for Best Actor to Daria Grandinetti, and Silver Shell for Best Director. The film is a Europe-Latin America co-production about corruption and crime, and was supported by MEDIA with € 55,000 of co-production funds.

Also in the official competition, L’Homme Fidèle by Louis Garrel got the Jury Prize for Best Screenplay. The romantic tale of a guy who finds himself in a love triangle that he cannot control got €6,000 funding via automatic support for its distribution.

The Spain-Poland-Belgium-Germany co-production under the direction of Raul de la Fuente and Damián Nenow was rewarded with both the San Sebastian Audience Award and the Award to the Basque Best Screenplay. Another day of life, as it is called in English, was supported by MEDIA with a development single fund of €80,000 and with €13,500 of automatic support.

Finally, High Life by Claire Denis and Quién te cantará by Carlos Vermut got the FIPRESCI and Zinemaldia Feroz Award respectively. Both benefited from automatic support, €26,000 in the first case, and €6,000 for the latter.

European Film Forum: debating international film funds

In the context of the festival, Creative Europe MEDIA organised a European Film Forum on 24 September about film funding opportunities in the international sphere. Lucia Recalde, Head of the MEDIA Unit at the European Commission, presented the programme and discussed with the panel the most relevant film funds available in terms of funding volume, support lines and results.

The debate focused on co-production and, through case studies, panellists stated the numerous benefits of this format for projects to enlarge the scope of their activities, markets and audiences.
