The funding will be made available through two calls for proposals, which earmark €5 million for digital reporting, and €4.5 million for audio reporting.

The first call aims to fund two projects for the dissemination of content in digital formats in a minimum of six EU languages and it targets news media organisations and technology developers to help them prepare and present digital news. The objective is to provide citizens with a wide choice of online news content by increasing independent reporting through digital formats.

The second call aims to fund one project focusing on the production of audio formats such as news bulletins, reports, documentaries, magazines and talk shows and it targets news media and in particular media specialised in audio formats. The objective is to increase the reach of independent reporting through audio formats, especially cross border to benefit as many EU citizens as possible, especially in countries where information on EU affairs is limited.

The eligible participants will have to operate in full editorial independence.
