The virtual Workshop
The fourth stakeholder workshop "European 5G Observatory – 5G in the Digital Decade" took place as an online event on Thursday, 20 October 2022 from 10:30-13:30.
The workshop was open to all stakeholders interested in 5G, including telecom operators and suppliers, national authorities in charge of telecom, spectrum policy, and regulation, as well as representatives of the vertical industries (such as transport, logistics, automotive, health, energy, smart factories, media and entertainment) considering to use of 5G for their use cases.
The workshop was organised fully remotely, as was the 2021 edition.
Workshop Report
The Commission opened the workshop by highlighting the future challenges facing the 5G Observatory, in particular shifting focus from monitoring 5G readiness to monitoring the actual network service rollout and keeping track of progress made towards reaching the Digital Decade targets.
The consultants in charge of the Observatory then presented the latest state of 5G deployment in Europe and key market developments in other parts of the world, reflecting on the data recently published in the latest Quarterly Report (QR 17).
The European Network Information Security Agency (ENISA) gave an update on the implementation of the 5G Cybersecurity Toolbox.
The opening presentations were followed by a panel discussion including experts from industry and public authorities to exchange views on the challenges ahead in achieving the EU ambitions for 5G deployment.
More details on the outcome of the workshop can be found in the files to be downloaded below, including the workshop report as well as the presentations.
