The context
A strategic objective of the European Commission, as clearly expressed by Commissioner Oettinger, is “to ensure that all industrial sectors make the best use of new technologies and manage their transition towards higher value digitised products and processes”
National and regional initiatives for Digitising European Industry (e.g. Industrie 4.0, Smart Industry, Catapult, Industrie du Futur, Fabbrica Intelligente, Industria Conectada 4.0) are facing this challenge. There is however a risk that these initiatives remain below the scale needed to make the whole European industry benefit.
After the roundtables in which Commissioner Oettinger consulted leaders of national initiatives and business leaders, a working meeting was organised with the objective to identify specific actions which, building upon the existing national and regional initiatives, will implement the European strategy.
The meeting was planned for November 23rd, but had to be cancelled for security reasons. Invitations were sent to the relevant National initiatives, European Member States, industry and associations.
Next steps
The contributions received by participants have been consolidated in a report "Synthesis of Stakeholder Inputs", which is now available on this page, and will be discussed in an online webinar. After the webinar, results will be published on a public online space which will allow comments from a wider audience.
