#EuropeDay 2022: closure of the Conference on the Future of Europe and European Year of Youth

On 29 and 30 April, the plenary session of the Conference on the Future of Europe met for the last time and endorsed a set of 49 detailed proposals covering a wide range of topics from climate change to health, migration and the EU around the world.

This follows an exceptional one-year journey of discussions, deliberations and collaboration among citizens across Europe on the type of Europe they want to live in (more details in this press release)

The next step will take place in Strasbourg on 9 May, the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundations for what is now the European Union. Given Russia’s unjustified military aggression towards Ukraine, Europe Day 2022 is an even more important moment to reaffirm our commitment to peace, show our unity and solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and defend universal values, such as freedom and democracy in a rules-based global order.

As the European Year of Youth 2022 highlights young Europeans and the Conference on the Future of Europe has amplified the voice of citizens, this 9 May is a timely moment to discuss the challenges Europeans face today.

In Strasbourg, on the occasion of Europe Day, after the last plenary that took place last weekend, a report presenting the outcome of the Conference will be submitted to the Presidents of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission.

On Europe Day, the EU institutions invite a wide range of online and on-site activities, both in the Member States and worldwide. To visit the institutions, there will be Saturday 7 May in Brussels, Monday 9 May in Luxembourg and Sunday 15 May in Strasbourg. In addition, visitors will be able to make a virtual visit to the EU institutions. Test your knowledge about the EU, follow live events online and discover what is being done to make Europe safer, greener, healthier and more digital for future generations. All information on Europe Day 2022 is available on an interinstitutional platform dedicated to Europe Day and in the factsheet.
