Japan, 18 December 2025 – Ericsson has begun live deployment of its AIR 3255 massive multiple-input multiple-output (massive MIMO) radios in NTT Docomo’s commercial 5G network, targeting high-traffic areas with growing data demand.
Operating in the 4.5 gigahertz band, the new radios are integrated with NTT Docomo’s existing 3.7 gigahertz massive MIMO equipment. The combined setup is intended to increase network capacity and improve spectrum efficiency, enabling better performance for users in densely populated locations.
The solution is powered by Ericsson Silicon and is designed to deliver both performance and sustainability benefits. According to Ericsson, the radios reduce energy consumption by around 25% and lower the carbon dioxide (CO₂) footprint by approximately 20%, supporting the operator’s wider efficiency and environmental objectives alongside continued 5G capacity expansion.
