These are the top 10 things not to be missed at the annual European eHealth Week in Amsterdam.

1. The opening plenary

Next to enjoying a dashing 'multi media experience', you can listen to and participate in a debate featuring high-level speakers such as Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis (Health and Food Safety) and Dutch Health minister Edith Schippers. Together we will explore how we can change the healthcare system, as this year's slogan is "eHealth Week 2016: You at the heart of transition"; The first step forward is to give patients the power, but importance of cross-border economic cooperation and support for SMEs is also stressed.

2. Boosts for European eHealth SME's - EU SME eHealth Competition

The most innovative eHealth solutions come from smaller and medium-sized companies (SME's). That's why the European Commission supports initiatives such as the GET project helping eHealth SMEs to be successful on the market, the FICHe accelerator programme and the EU SME eHealth Competition.

  • Who is the best European eHealth SME? Check out the EU SME eHealth Competition: An expert jury, consisting of high industry representatives and policy makers such as Commission officials, will select the best European eHealth SME's on Thursday morning 9 June (9:00-13:00). The winners will be awarded at the end of the Plenary session that same day (15:00-16:00). Both will take place in Hall M Effectenbeurszaal. More info and the finalists.

3. Speakers' Corner

5 minute flash presentations of ground-breaking European research and innovation on topics such as breast cancer, e-mental health and decision support systems for clinicians. The floor is also given to eHealth SMEs and people of National Contact Points ready to help you with your Horizon 2020 project proposal.

4. EU stakeholder sessions on mHealth apps

During these sessions at the coming eHealth Week, you can be part of the discussion on quality and privacy of mobile health (mHealth) apps.

5. Exhibition

The eHealth Week 2016 exhibition floor is the place to be: Eat popcorn with nurses, visit the entrepeneurial village and witness many world class exhibitors, new product launches, educational sessions and so much more. Don't miss LEA the care robot at the EU-funded SILVER project stand (L38), the European Commission stand (L19) and the interactive Dutch ministry stand (N23).

6. EU-US cooperation on eHealth

Through an interactive session you can learn about the updated EU-US eHealth/HealthIT roadmap on work force, skills and innovation ecosystems. Another session focusses on eHealth interoperability across the Atlantic: What steps have been taken and what still needs to be done in order to make the International Patient Summary or a global identification of medicinal products a reality?

7. Cybersecurity and safe exchange of health data

Privacy and protection of personal data is of the utmost importance both to the European Union and to each of its Member States. As part of the Trust & Standards track, we will look at cyber risks in the healthcare sector and what to do about it. The main topic on the EU political agenda being implemented now is the European eID infrastructure for high-level trust authentication services.

8. Sexual (e)health and serious gaming

Our digital age requires new ways to target and educate especially young people and vulnerable groups.

9. IHE World Summit & live interoperability demonstration

IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information.

The IHE World Summit involves identifying real-world scenarios/use cases, writing and reviewing specifications, implementing interoperability in products, monitoring vendor testing, etc. You are invited to become involved in one or more of these activities.

During live interoperability demonstrations, seven eHealth vendors showcase the benefits of information sharing for both patients and care providers, based on available and implemented IHE profiles. A realistic chronic diabetes care scenario is shown, starting with glucose level measurements at home, a GP visit and subsequent ophthalmology examination, and resulting in treatment in a specialist clinic.

10. Closing plenary

Come to the closing plenary with high-level speakers such as Deputy Director General Gail Kent (DG Connect, European Commission), State Secretary for Health, Welfare and Sport Martin van Rijn (Ministry of Health, the Netherlands), director of the Radboud REshape Innovation Center Lucien Engelen (Radboud University, the Netherlands) and eHealth specialist Jorrit Ebben (Siza, the Netherlands).
