Journalism Partnerships

The call for proposals for Journalism Partnerships aims to help the wider European news media sector become more sustainable and resilient, thus contributing to trustworthy reporting on current affairs, to an informed and inclusive democratic debate, to skills development and employment for news media professionals and journalists.

Journalism Partnerships aim for sector-wide, cross-border collaboration among news media organisations across Europe. Interested consortia can focus on business transformation and/or journalistic projects, operating with full editorial independence.

Consortia may choose to focus on a news media (sub)sector and/or journalistic genre (local/regional journalism, public-interest journalism, data journalism, investigative journalism, etc).

They should aim to enhance cooperation and help the wider news media ecosystem, including small media, for instance by developing technical and editorial standards, by testing new business models, new types of newsrooms and journalistic formats, by providing support to innovative journalistic collaborations, and by sharing best practices among peers (e.g. through training and events). The proposed activities should be clearly justified and based on the needs of the chosen (sub)sector(s).

Proposals must involve as many news media as possible in their activities. Consortia should gather at least 3 partners from at least 3 different countries participating in the Creative Europe Programme.

Projects will last 24 months, starting early 2022.

EUR 7,6 million is available. 80% EU co-financing. No minimum or maximum budget.

The call for proposals is expected to be repeated on a yearly basis.
