The CEF Digital programme drives 5G investments

The Commission has planned one billion euros for 5G investments in the next seven years in the framework of CEF Digital

Poster. Connecting Europe Facility. First calls now open.

CEF Digital is a new funding instrument fully dedicated to connectivity. The programme is designed to support the Commission's Connectivity objectives. All major transport routes in Europe should have 5G connectivity by 2025. The Commission also set Connectivity targets for the 2030 Digital Decade. By the end of the decade, all EU households should have access to 5G networks.

To reach these ambitions, the Commission has planned one billion euros for 5G investments in the next seven years in the framework of CEF Digital. There are open calls for proposals to grant subsidies to projects. There are actions in place to support a timely deployment of 5G innovative services. Funding will be channeled to smart communities - to enable innovative use cases in key areas, such as healthcare, education, public services at the local level. Another open call will support the deployment of 5G along major transport paths to support connected and automated mobility applications.
