Vice-President for Values and Transparency, Věra Jourová, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel and Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, will participate with the EU Ministers of Culture in an informal meeting on 7-8 March 2022 in Angers, France.

As the discussions take place against the backdrop of Russian aggression in Ukraine, the initial roundtable discussion will focus on support to Ukrainian artists, journalists, cultural professionals and to the media sector. A specific declaration will be published.

Subsequent discussions will focus on the future of media in Europe and strengthening the diversity of European culture online. Topics to be highlighted include press freedom, media plurality, sustainable financing models, public support at EU and national level, public confidence in media and the discoverability of online content. It will also be an opportunity to reaffirm Europe’s commitment to cultural and linguistic diversity as a pillar of European values, by proposing concrete measures to strengthen European cultural sovereignty in the digital age.

On 8 March, the European Ministers of Culture will focus on the protection and promotion of Europe's cultural heritage. You can find more information on EU support to the news media sector and in this factsheet
