Shaping Europe’s digital future

Pledges for action

All organisations, businesses and government bodies are encouraged to make a concrete commitment to carry out actions to reduce the digital skills gap in Europe.

The Commission invites companies, organisations, schools and institutions to sign a Call for action to improve digital skills in Europe.

Commitments and pledges from organisations range from teacher training, reskilling jobseekers, and actions targeting ICT professionals and people working in different sectors to helping people learn digital skills.

Organisations can introduce pledges online via the pledge viewer. The pledge should address one or more of the 4 target groups:

  1. digital skills for all: developing digital skills to enable all citizens to be active in our digital society;
  2. digital skills for the labour force: developing digital skills for the digital economy, e.g. upskilling and reskilling workers, jobseekers; actions on career advice and guidance;
  3. digital skills for ICT professionals: developing high level digital skills for ICT professionals in all industry sectors;
  4. digital skills in education: transforming teaching and learning of digital skills in a lifelong learning perspective, including the training of teachers.

Special call to attract women and girls to digital

A study found that the share of men working in the digital sector is 3.1 times greater than the share of women. To bridge the gender gap in technology, the European Commission invites companies and organisations to pledge actions to equip more women and girls with digital skills and enthuse them to pursue ICT studies and careers.
